Data Detectives

The pupils in ASC2 have been very busy learning how to turn information into organized records using tally marks - a skill that helps us count and compare things quickly and accurately.
To practice our new skills, we took part in two exciting investigations:
- The Great Car Watch: We took our learning outside for a "car watch." Standing safely by the road, we observed the different colours of the passing cars. Every time a car went by, we added a tally mark to the matching colour on our sheets.
- Animal Sorting: We started in the classroom by sorting a variety of animals into different groups. As we identified each type of animal, we recorded them on our charts. It was a great way to see which animals were the most common in our collection.
To make the data more accessible and easier to interpret, we transitioned from manual notes to digital software. Using Just2easy (Jit5), we transferred our raw tally data into professional charts and graphs. This visual step helped highlight patterns and distributions that were not immediately obvious from the numbers alone.
